Dogs

Dogs have become a problem at the last few events at Katemcy forcing us to make some changes. We have had a large number of complaints of loose dogs urinating on campsites, scaring people, eating food & trash from other campsites, barking all night and otherwise annoying other guests. That is not pleasant environment for others. While we have many dog owners that are very conscientious about their pets and keep them leashed, others are more lax in the monitoring perhaps unaware of what their pet is doing. As a result, we have decided that from this point forward, if you wish to bring your dog to Katemcy you must make arrangements with either Shain or Randy in advance. If your dog is allowed, you will be required to keep your dog LEASHED AT ALL TIMES. This includes in camp. This is where most of the complaints have originated. If your dog is found loose, or others complain of your animal urinating on their camp, incessant barking, or related problems, you will be asked to leave forfeiting your admission fee(s) or you will have to make arrangements to have the dog immediately removed from the premises.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Lone Star Early Bronco Round Up, April 20-22, 2007

Broncos, Broncos, everywhere!
Sunny skies and 75 early broncos greeted us at Katemcy on this 8th Annual Lone Star Early Bronco Round Up. Everything from extreme, rock-rash covered rigs to pristine showroom looking EBs were here for this three day event. You could roll your rig on the trail [pic 2] or leave it in camp for people to ogle over [Pic 3]. Some folks brought extra broncos with them just in case their first rig broke! Good idea, Kim. Sorry about the 2nd rig too!

Vendors such as James Duff broncos, BC Broncos, Toms Broncos Parts, PSC Motorsports, and Wild Child, showed up and wheeled with the Lone Star Early Bronco gang and their friends. Dozens of other vendors donated items to Saurday night's raffle which was full of great stuff that I got cheated out of!! Paul sold me all the loser tickets!

Suzi Duff didn't bring down her family's famous "Hi Ho Silver" bronc, but Chris Towery was glad to give Suzi a ride in his big purple "Barney." I'm sure Suzi was quite impressed with Chris' driving when he laid his bronc over on Suzi's side! The sand drags were as popular as ever this year with lots of folks running their broncs, their tow rigs, or their buddy's rig if he wasn't watching. After some debate the sand drag officials declared Kirk Jorden, running his "buzzin' half dozen" turbo-charged straight six cylinder, as overall winner...or was that weiner...I don't remember.

Saturday evening after a full plate of BBQ, I'm not sure who fell asleep quicker, the 20 plus little kids or their exhausted parents. It was a lot of fun for everyone. Great job LSEB!!

Moab Easter Jeep Safari, 2007

Shain, Randy and the crews from West Texas Offroad and Baertrax made their annual pilgrimage to Moab, Utah for the 41st Annual Easter Jeep Safari. A couple of Katemcy regulars, Brain Purkerson and Kevin Johnson, brought their Rubicons and joined the fun for a few days. Duane Smith and Claudia Crow for Get Bent! videos showed up with cameras the day we hit 'Behind the Rocks' and, hopefully, got some good footage for another top notch DVD!

Earlier in the week on Hell's Revenge, Kenneth Wright showed us how to roll on your lid in one of the hot tubs, Toby Harrell showed us how to nearly lose it and toast your rig (as he did 2 years earlier) in the big hot tub, and we spied one of Jeep's new JK concept trucks out wheeling [top pic]. Russ and Christy Baer invited us along on the Crawl Magazine media run where we had a good time hanging out with the Klein family (www.we-rock.cc) and some of the W.E. Rock and U.R.O.C. teams. Randy, Shain and Russ played on Upper Hellderado and Shain managed to take the worst line [bottom pic]. This was another week that just blazed by too fast with great four wheeling, fun and friends.

Lone Star Land Cruiser RoundUp, March 14-18

This year's annual Toyota Land Cruiser event was another huge success with over 70 rigs, multiple vendors, the FC Cruiser Team, and the best damn band in country music...the John D. Hale Band!! The weather was great and tons of folks showed up. This year the landcruiser crowd may have set a Katemcy record with cruisers from 17 different states from Oregon to Florida! The Oregon boys from Metal Tech 4x4 trailered from Portland, toasted a trailer in Utah, bought a new trailer, and kept driving to Texas. And they vowed to do it again next year! (well maybe not the trailer buying part). Check out some of their photos at HERE. A host of other photos are on the net on sites such as the LSLC site and Pirate 4x4. And no, I didn't roll over on the start of waterfall trail on purpose. The ever-so-kind land cruiser crowd wouldn't pull me back over until they all wasted a half a roll of film taking pictures of my rig to post on land cruiser sites : ) Doc Troutman kept with tradition and did his annual 'dance' during the concert Friday night. Scary! I'm afraid to see what next year brings. Great event and great folks! Look for a full story in Toyota Trails. We're ready for the next one!!

Baertrax Customer Run

Well last weekend, our good buddies Russ and Christy Baer of BAERTRAX in Dallas held the 3rd Annual Customer Appreciation Run here at K-Rocks. We had well over a hundred rigs show up to wheel this weekend, and they were treated to some fantastic Texas springtime weather--about 85 degrees, a nice cool breeze all day, and no rain until late Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the event.

Of course, Russ Baer had to test out his newest roll cage. Clint didn't seem to mind that his wife Dana got flipped on her lid as she was riding passenger with Russ.

In additon to wheelin, local musician Spider Johnson performed on stage Saturday night, and the Baers treated their customers to a free steak dinner, catered by Leonard Wilson. Then later on in the evening, Randy, Elaine, and Wenie got on stage to sing, accompanied by Chris Cloud's daughter Isabella on tambourine.

Russ and Christy had this to say after the event:

We want to thank everyone for coming--we had a wonderful time. As always, the wheeling was spectacular and so were our hosts--Randy & Pam Kruse and family. It was all "Greatness".

Russ & Christy Baer

It was a great event--if you were there, we hope you had a great time too. And if you weren't there...well, you missed out! So be sure to make it out to the next Katemcy Rocks event, the Memorial Day 5th Birthday Bash.

Katemcy Rocks 5th Birthday Bash

Memorial Day Weekend
May 26 - 28, 2006
Limited to the first 150 Rigs to signup

CLICK HERE for details and the required sign up sheet.

Shain and I were talking the other day and we have been open for 5 years now. So we are going to have a party and celebrate. Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-28) Friday, Saturday, Sunday will be the date. We will open for camping Thursday night and then wheel Friday, Saturday, Sunday (wheeling till 3:00 p.m. Sunday). Friday night we will provide a Chili and Beans dinner. Saturday night we will provide a BBQ meal. We will also have a kick ass band playing Saturday night -- the John D. Hale Band (www.johndhaleband.com) from Missouri. They are featured on XM Radio Outlaw Country and one of the best new country bands we've heard in a long time. They played here during the Toyota Land Cruiser Event in March and were so good we begged them to come back. We are tentatively having music Friday night as well but have not got the official okay from the other musician. We will have a package deal including wheeling, event t-shirt, meals, music and camping. Limited 150 rigs. So better sign up early.

Thanks,

Randy

Lone Star Early Bronco Club Spring Round Up

The 7th annual Lone Star Early Bronco Club Spring Round Up event was a big success! Tons of vintage Ford Early Bronco 4x4s showed up, breaking all sorts of club attendance records. Over 80 rigs showed up to hit the trails here at Katemcy Rocks, plus they had a huge raffle with lots of great prizes from vendors. As you probably know, this is the 40th anniversary of the Early Bronco, so there are a lot of big EB runs being held throughout the country this year, and we're proud to have been able to host such a great event.

CLICK THIS LINK for a thread on the ClassicBroncos.com forum with pics of the event from some of the attendees.

Randy and Shain had some fun at Moab EJS

Randy, Shain, and the rest of the Katemcy Rocks crew made another trip to Moab this year for the annual Easter Jeep Safari event. As always, a good time was had by all. Here's what happens when Shain spots Randy over an obstacle. Ha-ha!

And check out the new 37" Goodyear MTR tires on Randy's rig. Thanks for the great tires, Goodyear! Next time, Randy will try to keep them on the ground; he says they don't have nearly as much traction when they're sticking up in the air. ;-)
